Cuban Head of State highlighted Unesco award to Cuban scientist

Havana, Oct 2nd (RHC) On Friday, the first Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the award presented by UNESCO to Doctor in Science María Guadalupe Guzmán, which he described as a prize that also belongs to the Revolution.


 

In his Twitter account, the president said: Guzmán, director of Research, Diagnosis and Reference of the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), obtained such high recognition for her research on dengue.


 

According to the UN organization focused on education, science and culture, the Cuban scientist stands out for her pioneering work for a better understanding of this disease, present mainly in intertropical areas, which infects between 50 and 100 million people in the world every year. The multilateral organization recalled that since 1998 it has been giving the award to women researchers who stand out for their contribution to life sciences and the environment. (Source: PL)
