Cuba congratulates Chilean president-elect Gabriel Boric

Chile's President-elect, Gabriel Boric.

Havana, December 20 (RHC)-- The president of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, congratulated this Sunday, the president-elect of Chile, Gabriel Boric.

Describing Boric's election on Twitter as a historic people's victory, Diaz-Canel ratified the willingness to expand bilateral relations and cooperation between both peoples and governments.

For his part, Bruno Rodríguez congratulated the president-elect of Chile and the people of that nation for the elections, which he described as transcendental.

On Twitter,  the foreign minister also expressed "the desire to continue strengthening the historical ties of friendship between our nations."

The candidate of the leftist coalition Apruebo Dignidad became the youngest elected president of the South American nation after winning the second round of the elections this Sunday.

According to media reports, Boric, 35 years old, obtained a victory of more than 11 points over his rival, the far-right José Antonio Kast, of the Social Christian Front.

He was born on February 11, 1986, in the southern city of Punta Arenas, in the Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica.

His government program foresees modernizing and strengthening the State, changing the current pension system, raising taxes on the richest, and guaranteeing a universal health system.

Also among the president-elect's priorities are to recover employment, especially for women and young people, to cancel the education debt, and to support small and medium enterprises.
