Washington, December 23 (RHC) The cities of Miami, New York, and towns in the state of Tennessee were the scene Thursday of a vigil for peace and against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by successive U.S. governments on Cuba.

Despite the low temperatures, there was a collective response to the call by the solidarity project Puentes de Amor (Bridges of Love).

The participants demanded the lifting of the sanctions that weigh on Cuban families and agreed that bridges of love need to be built between the peoples of the United States and Cuba.

They also advocated in favor of rapprochement between the two countries, a process initiated in the last stage of Barack Obama's term that was interrupted by his successor Donald Trump and continued with a similar line by current President Joe Biden.

"End the blockade", "Let Cuba live" were some of the slogans heard.

There were also reports of similar activities from Vancouver and Winnipeg (Canada),  San José (Costa Rica), and Mexico City.

For his part, the activist Carlos Lazo, coordinator of Bridges of Love and currently in Rome, carried out a pilgrimage of a hundred kilometers, in four stages, along the St. Francis Path from Assisi to the Italian capital.

Since the beginning of the year, the project led by the Cuban professor living in the United States has been carrying out monthly caravans for the end of Washington's unilateral siege on the island.

The solidarity initiative, which is replicated in various parts of the world, multiplies the demand to Biden to fulfill his electoral promise when he said he would reverse the policy of sanctions and hostility towards Cuba if he reached the White House.

But 11 months after taking office, the Democratic leader, far from bringing about that change, continues to follow the same route as Trump, who reinforced the blockade with 243 measures so far untouched.
