Havana, December 27 (RHC)— The National Director of Epidemiology, Dr. Francisco Duran, warned Monday about the increase of  COVID-19 infections.

Although the figures still do not compare to those when the crisis was at its peak earlier this year, he insisted that the increase is not a result of the circulation in the country of the Omicron variant.

He urged the Cuban population not to lower the guard, even after being fully vaccinated and receiving a booster dose.

In the last 24 hours, Public health authorities reported 128 new COVID-19 infections and one death associated with the disease.  552 confirmed cases remained hospitalized.

With the latest update, the Caribbean Island now accumulates 964 857 cases diagnosed since the beginning of the pandemic and  8321 fatalities
