Havana, Jan 15 (RHC)-=- A solidarity shipment with 15,000 pounds of powdered milk arrived Saturday in this capital organized by the joint effort of the groups Bridges of Love, Code Pink, and The People's Forum from the United States.

Representatives of the organizations that accompanied the shipment agreed that it responds to the need to support the country in the face of the U.S. blockade and its intensification amid Covid-19.

We know that it is a small shipment in a sea of needs, but beyond the cargo itself, we want to build Bridges of Love, and these are built gram by gram, Carlos Lazo, leader of the project of the same name, told the assembled press.

They said the powdered milk will be destined to pediatric hospitals in the capital.

"We are here with people of goodwill making holes in the blockade and against sanctions that have lasted more than 60 years and are a crime amid this pandemic," he added.

For her part, Medea Benjamin, representative of Code Pink, recognized Cuba's achievements in caring for women and children.

"As a woman, mother and grandmother, I have great admiration for Cuba's treatment of children, and it gives me great pain to know that the U.S. government is making it difficult to import supplies," she said.

We are here with the milk to show our love for all the children of Cuba and the world, the activist added.

The effort of this initiative breaks the media siege and the silence that they want to impose on the Cuban people, said, meanwhile, the leader of The People's Forum, Manolo de los Santos. "We understand that it is important to show the absurdity of the sanctions against the Cuban people," he emphasized.

Following the announcement of the cargo in the days before its arrival, the Bridges of Love project said in a statement that the funds raised for the milk and the charter flight came from an outpouring of individual donations from people across the United States.

Donors include Cuban-Americans, an expression of the growing rejection by U.S. public opinion of the U.S. government's economic policies aimed at strangling the Cuban economy.
