Havana, January 17 (RHC) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero highlighted the rigorous and thorough work of the bodies in charge of imparting justice in the nation.

Speaking on Monday at the opening ceremony of the 2022 judicial year, the head of government highlighted the wisdom with which the Cuban judicial system carries out its work while conveying a message of congratulations from the country's top leadership to its members.

The president of the People's Supreme Court (TSP), Rubén Remigio Ferro, underlined that the administration of justice is one of the activities that maintained its vitality, even in the complex circumstances imposed by the pandemic.

The jurist pointed to the work results of 2021 and the challenges of the period that begins, such as acting with transparency, professionalism, and sensitivity, overcoming weaknesses that generate complaints and dissatisfaction of the population.

"Last year, the courts should have processed and resolved a total of 138,380 cases, but due to the limitations associated with the pandemic, only 123,662 could be processed and concluded," he noted.

He said that the new organic and procedural laws recently approved by the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) would strengthen the regime of rights and guarantees of the people.

The celebration of the beginning of the judicial year is a generalized practice in several countries. In Cuba, it was a tradition until the beginning of the '70s of the last century.
