Cuba confirms seven deaths and 888 cases of COVID-19 in past 24 hours

Havana, February 12 (RHC)-- Cuba's Public Health Ministry reported on Saturday seven deaths and 888 positive samples for Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, for an accumulated 1 million 059,834 diagnoses since the beginning of the disease in the nation.

At the end of yesterday, February 11, a total of 14,283 patients had been admitted, 9,177 were suspected, 107 were under surveillance and 4,999 were confirmed active.

For COVID-19, a total of 16,836 samples were taken for surveillance during the day, with 888 testing positive. The country accumulates 12 million 879 thousand 315 samples taken and 1 million 059 thousand 834 positive.

Of the total number of cases (888): 860 were contacts of confirmed cases, 15 with source of infection abroad and 13 with no source of infection specified. Of the 888 diagnosed cases, 474 were female and 414 were male.

A total of 6.19% (55) of the 888 positive cases were asymptomatic, making a total of 144,272 cases, representing 13.6% of those confirmed to date.

Of the 888 diagnosed cases, they belong to the following age groups: under 20 years of age (209), 20 to 39 years of age (258), 40 to 59 years of age (241), 60 and over (180).

Of the 1,059,834 patients diagnosed with the disease, 4,999 remain hospitalized, of whom 4,948 have a stable clinical course. There are 8,467 deaths, with a case fatality rate of 0.80% vs. 1.43% in the world and 1.80% in the Americas; two evacuated and 57 returned to their countries. During the day there were 1,250 discharges, 1,046,309 patients recovered (98.7%). 51 confirmed patients are being treated in intensive care, including 25 critically ill and 26 seriously ill.

Seven patients died during the day. We deeply regret what happened and convey our condolences to their families and friends.

As of February 11, 192 countries and 32 territories have reported cases of COVID-19, with 407 million 698 thousand 96 confirmed cases (+ 2 million 969 thousand 153), 74 million 171 thousand 422 active cases and 5 million 812 thousand 609 deaths (+ 13 thousand 65) for a case fatality rate of 1.43% (=).

In the Americas region, 144 million 228,950 confirmed cases (+ 556,560) were reported, 35.38% of the total number of cases reported in the world, with 34 million 571,577 active cases and 2 million 591,396 deaths (+ 6,198) for a case fatality rate of 1.8% (=).
