Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said Monday that U.S. President Joe Biden does not have a policy of his own towards the Caribbean nation.

Havana, June 20 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said Monday that U.S. President Joe Biden does not have a policy of his own towards the Caribbean nation.

From his Twitter account, the foreign minister said that the actions of the U.S. president towards Cuba refute the promises made to U.S. citizens and Cubans living in Florida during his presidential campaign.  In addition, they are not in line with what was stated in the Democratic electoral platform.

Rodriguez pointed out that Biden is following the footsteps of Donald Trump's administration by applying a policy of maximum pressure on the Caribbean nation, aimed at "causing harm and suffering to the Cuban people, preventing the development of our economy and encouraging irregular emigration to the U.S., which actually harms U.S. national interests."

In May, the White House announced a group of limited measures toward Cuba that lift some of the more than 240 taken by Washington during the Trump era, and that Biden maintained since his arrival to power in January 2021 to date.

Among the planned provisions are the reauthorization of so-called people-to-people travel, the expansion of consular services, the elimination of limits on remittances, and re-establishing the family reunification program.

On June 1, the United States lifted restrictions on flights to Cuban airports other than Havana, the first practical application of the group of initiatives announced in May.

The Cuban government assured that the recent measures are a first step in the right direction, but are insufficient as long as the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade remains intact.
