Havana, July 5 (RHC)-- On Tuesday, the Portuguese Section of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba (CCRC) was established in Havana, with the purpose of strengthening economic and commercial ties between the business community of both nations.

In the presence of the ambassadors of Havana and Lisbon in the respective countries, Yusmari Diaz Perez and Jose Pedro Machado; and Antonio Luis Carricarte Corona, president of the CCRC stressed that they will work in different sectors of common interest, to diversify and promote trade and encourage strategic alliances between the two countries.

He specified that this section will become an instrument of support for the increase of the Portuguese presence in the largest Antillean island, and one of its lines will be to strengthen the actions for the promotion of trade and investments aimed at the Portuguese market through the reactivation and creation of links with business and industrial associations of that nation, previously identified.

Others are to work on the rapprochement of companies from the two countries in projects already identified through the exchange of information and the holding of business forums, create links with Portuguese promotion agencies and promote their participation and that of Cuba in fairs and exhibitions in both nations.

The aforementioned body of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba aspires to a greater presence of Portuguese identities in trade and investment in the Caribbean Island, and will develop actions that allow the insertion and support to Micro, Small and Medium Size enterprises for commercial exchange and access to the Portuguese market.

Carricarte thanked the Portugal-Cuba Chamber of Commerce for its work during the eight years of life in the rapprochement between the companies of the two nations, and the embassies for their collaboration, which has allowed the creation of the new section and will continue working with us so that the economic and trade links between our countries continue to strengthen, expand and diversify.

Also present were Rubén Ramos Arrieta, vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba; Álvaro Cunha, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Portuguese Embassy, and virtually Pedro Santos, president of the Portugal-Cuba Chamber of Commerce, as well as representatives of Portuguese institutions.
