Cuba and Colombia to strengthen bilateral relations

Bogota, Sep 1 (RHC)-- Cuba's ambassador to Colombia, Javier Caamaño, concluded a visit to the Colombian city of Barranquilla on Thursday, where he met with authorities, entrepreneurs, and friends of the people and government of the island.

"It was an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in a general sense and in particular to move forward on cooperation, economic and investment issues," the diplomat told Prensa Latina.

In addition, he exchanged with friends of the House of the Caribbean of Solidarity with the Peoples, the  president of the Colombian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, and the venue of the following National Meeting of this collective, he stressed.

The ambassador and his entourage visited the Barranquilla Free Trade Zone & ZOFIA, and there they met with the financial and administrative manager of the Zone.

During the meeting, they commented on its history, current affairs, and the Cuban experience of the Mariel Special Development Zone, located in the west of the Antillean country.

They also visited the Colombian company Súper Brix Internacional S.A. in the same economic area, where they learned about its experiences and products and exchanged on business and investment possibilities.

In Barranquilla, the Cuban ambassador met with people in business with extensive experience in producing and marketing raw materials for the footwear industry.

In this regard, in the company Canguro, they exchanged on business opportunities with entrepreneurs from both countries.

During his stay in the capital of the department of Atlántico, Caamaño visited the Reformed University, where he held a cordial meeting with the rector, Helis Barraza Díaz, and the Reverend Milcíades Púa Gómez, vice-rector of Research and Innovation of the academic institution of the Presbyterian Church of Colombia.

They discussed the potential for academic exchange and mobility with Cuban higher education institutions.
