Cienfuegos, September 5 (RHC)--The 65th anniversary of the Cienfuegos Uprising was celebrated Monday in the presence of Cuba's highest authorities.

Thousands of south-central city residents attended the commemoration, which was presided over by Army General Raúl Castro, President Miguel Díaz-Canel, and the President of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández.

Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, gave the keynote address.

He referred to the strategic conviction and sacrifice for Cuba's freedom, common points between the events of July 26, 1953, and September 5, 1957.

He recalled the admirable attitude of the combatants and the people of Cienfuegos, humble people who went to fight under the orders of the July 26 Movement and demonstrated their willingness to confront the bloody tyranny of Fulgencio Batista.

He addressed the complex situation the country is going through, the increased hostility of the United States, and called for unity and cohesion towards the common goal of Cuba remaining free and sovereign

"Unity is a sacred principle that has allowed the Revolution to reach this point and face the Yankee onslaughts since its beginnings."

Speaking of the fourth-generation war being waged against Cuba, which seeks to project the country as a failed state, he recalled that no nation of this kind overcomes a COVID-19 pandemic by its efforts, nor does it obtain the highest degree of immunization at the global level with its own vaccines, or articulate institutions in the face of disasters such as the explosion at the Saratoga Hotel or the recent fire at the tanker base in Matanzas.

No failed state is a guarantor of a peace process like Colombia's or resumes its school year, as is happening this Monday at all levels of education in the country, universally and free of charge.

Morales Ojeda concluded his words by thanking the governments, organizations, and personalities -especially the sister nations of Venezuela and Mexico- who offered their help in the most complex accident Cuba has faced: the fire at the Supertanker Base in Matanzas.
