International Day of Peace
Havana, Sep 21 (RHC) On Wednesday, the Cuban Foreign Ministry recalled the commemoration of the International Day of Peace and expressed the Caribbean nation's commitment to the principles of humanism, solidarity, and defense of that right.
From its profile on the social network Twitter, the Foreign Ministry of the largest of the Antilles advocated for the construction of a better, equitable and sustainable world, in line with the ideals ratified on this day and allusive to non-violence and ceasefire.
According to the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), the attainment of true peace involves many more actions than just the laying down of arms, among them, the building of societies oriented to the development of their members.
The website of this international entity also refers, to the creation of scenarios where people are treated equally, regardless of their race, and recalls the incidents of discrimination at borders.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said: "Racism poisons institutions, social structures, and daily life. It is a key factor in persistent inequality. It destabilizes societies, undermines democracies, erodes the legitimacy of governments (...)."
Cuba, together with the member countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), is one of the signatories of the proclamation of the area as a zone of peace, which ratifies the responsibility with the values enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and International Law.
