United Nations, Sept 22 (RHC) South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor condemned the U.S. blockade against Cuba at the United Nations and demanded respect for the self-determination of peoples.

During her speech, the day before at the general debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the South African diplomat denounced that the coercive measures of the White House impede the development of the Caribbean island.

Likewise, she pronounced herself on the punitive actions against countries and asked to judge the Israeli government for its attacks for more than 60 years against Palestine, as well as to respect the self-determination of the Saharawi people.

Pandor reiterated his nation's commitment to multilateralism and world peace; he warned of the need to protect women in countries in conflict and professions such as journalism, in addition to requesting a greater role for women within the UN.

She stressed the role of education and the need for free education as the only way to achieve the development of nations while highlighting South Africa's achievements in this sector.

He recalled that conflicts are not solved by feeding them, expressed his government's confidence in the possibility of a better world, and urged the unity of all the member nations of the organization to achieve that goal. (Source: PL)
