Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, on an official visit to Cuba.


Havana, Sep 23 (RHC) The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen arrived Friday in Cuba for an official visit to the island. He was received by Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodriguez.

 

At terminal one of Havana's José Martí International Airport, and with the honors corresponding to his rank, the Cuban diplomat welcomed the dignitary, who will hold official talks with national authorities and carry out other activities.

 

The visit to the Caribbean nation by the Prime Minister of Cambodia will last until September 25.

 

The largest Antillean island maintains a scholarship program for young Cambodians, from 1983 to 2020 more than 170 students traveled to Cuba to receive education, mainly in the health sector.

 

Cuba and Cambodia celebrated the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on April 15. Furthermore, both countries have developed bilateral dialogue at the highest level and among the most significant events was the meeting in 1999 between Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016).

 

Cambodia maintains support for Cuba in its struggle against the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade, a hostile policy it has publicly condemned in the international arena.

 

Both nations are active members of the Non-Aligned Movement, of which both Fidel Castro and Cambodian prince Norodom Sihanouk were founders. (Source: PL)
