Havana, Oct 19 (RHC) Today's IV International Health Convention in Cuba discussed topics such as sexual and reproductive health, socio-environmental determinants, and their influence on the transmission of dengue, zika, and chikungunya. 

Child liver transplants, the Cuba-Venezuela collaboration within the South-South cooperation, and the challenges of the epidemiological situation in the region of the Americas were also analyzed during the event that ends on Friday at the Palacio de Convenciones in this capital.

The day before, the director of the Pan American Health Organization, Carissa Etienne, said that political and ideological differences threaten human health by preventing a fruitful connection between health systems at the international level.

"We cannot be separated by politics, ideologies are unthinkable, because the region cannot progress without solidarity," said Etienne in "Cuba Health 2022".

Joint work and assistance are essential to move forward in improving the quality of life in the Americas, Etienne pointed out.

It is vital to improving health schemes in pursuit of the quality of life of the people, and equity must be seen as a true value, she stressed.

Equity has to be at the center of the agenda of governments because no one can be left behind when it comes to receiving care or treatment, Etienne insisted.

She said that many countries are at risk because they do not have a strong healthcare system, and the Covid-19 pandemic showed the true face of some healthcare schemes.

We need to ensure that initiatives, policies, and interventions are people-centered and reach everyone, said the director of the Pan American Health Organization. (Source: PL)
