Havana, October 20 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited the western province of Pinar del Río today to check on recovery efforts in that territory, the most affected by the passage of Hurricane Ian.

Upon his arrival, the president spoke with local authorities and learned that the electrical system is 66.91 percent recovered and 1,945 homes have been recovered.

According to the Presidency of the Republic on Twitter, as part of the rehabilitation work, 5,000 tons of tobacco out of the 15,000 tons affected have already been saved.

The head of state is visiting for the sixth time this western territory, which suffered the ravages of Hurricane Ian for six hours on September 27.

Hurricane Ian, with category three on the Saffir-Simpson scale (out of five), caused significant damage, still to be fully quantified, to agriculture, tobacco houses, the electrical and telephone network, housing, roads and economic infrastructure.
