Intense recovery work continues to be carried out in Pinar del Río after the passage of Hurricane Ian through this western province at the end of September. The most complex issues to be solved are still associated with the rehabilitation of the affected houses and the restitution of the electric service.
According to the information of the president of the Provincial Defense Council, Yamilé Ramos Cordero, at the time of the exchange, electricity service had already been restored to 86.94% of the customers in the province. The municipalities of San Juan y Martínez and San Luis, with 51% and 50.85%, respectively, are still the ones with the lowest percentages; both are the ones with the greatest damage caused by the meteor.
According to the meeting - also presided over by the Vice President of the Republic, Salvador Valdés Mesa, and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, both members of the Political Bureau - once the actions to restore power in the different municipalities are completed, the brigades of linemen will continue to support the work in the territories that are lagging behind in the rehabilitation.
In the last few days, Ramos Cordero said, 327 poles arrived in Pinar del Río, which will allow faster progress in the energization of several places.
When updating the data on the actions being carried out to restore the 108,501 damaged houses, he said that 4,738 have already been recovered.
These figures are mainly associated with 4,284 partial roofs and 437 total roofs, as well as 17 total collapses.
He also stated that work has already begun on adapting several premises to be used by families whose homes were totally destroyed.
He also explained that during the last few days, some 26,000 roof tiles were received in the province and distributed to several construction material outlets in the province, which did not have roofing elements for sale.
