Venezuela-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group

Caracas, Nov 2 (RHC) The Venezuela-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group demanded an end to the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Caribbean island, which it described as criminal, illegal, and unjust.

The proposal of the legislators also demanded the withdrawal of the Antillean nation from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, as it is, they said, "a vile lie" against that country.

In this sense, they recognized that Havana leads humanitarian missions in favor of the health of the people of the world and is a leading defender of peace in Latin America and the Caribbean, especially with the peace in Colombia.

The parliamentarians considered that Cuba today faces the unprecedented intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, by the government of the United States, which includes "very aggressive additional measures" imposed during the administration of Donald Trump (2017-2021).

The coercive measures against the people of Cuba are more than 60 years old and violate Public International Law, by not recognizing that country as an independent nation, exercising its sovereignty and free self-determination, they pointed out.

They stressed that the continued application of the Helms-Burton Act in its Title III, to file lawsuits in U.S. courts, together with the attack on all sources of income and foreign currency inflows to the country, expands the interference scheme with third states that have commercial relations with Cuba.

The legislators remarked that the blockade constitutes a "massive, flagrant and systemic violation of human rights" and especially of the right to life of the Cuban people, as the economy is experiencing extraordinary pressures, which reflects in the shortage of food and medicines.

They added the obstacles in the research of Cuban vaccines and the prevention and treatments during the Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to the energy problems due to the lack of fuel that affects public services, food production, and the mobility of the population.

They also mentioned the lack of spare parts and resources for the repair and maintenance of industries and private enterprises, which deteriorates the level of consumption and the general welfare of Cuban families.

They stated that the impact of the blockade exerts anti-democratic and interfering pressures against nation-states and international organizations that have relations of solidarity and reciprocity with Cuba.

In this sense, they rejected the measures violating the human, economic, and self-determination rights of the people, executed by the government of the United States in an increasingly unilateral coercive manner against the heroic Cuban people.

The agreement proposes to disseminate it as widely as possible to make visible the unity, solidarity, brotherhood, and friendship between the peoples of Cuba and Venezuela. (Source: PL)
