Foreign Trade official says Cuba plans its future with Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific

Déborah Rivas, Cuba's Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment

Havana, Dec 8 (RHC) Cuba's Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Déborah Rivas said Thursday in Luanda that the Island plans to work towards a future within the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS).

 

"Recently, our country ratified the revised Georgetown agreement; which means we adhere to all the obligations and rights that this organization offers us," the official told Prensa Latina news agency.

 

After participating in the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the OACPS, in the Angolan capital, Rivas appreciated the content of the deliberations, to round out the documents that tomorrow will be considered by the heads of State and Government of the bloc.

She pointed out that this 10th Summit is the first with a face-to-face character, after the one held in 2019, "since the Covid-19 pandemic forced us to modify the traditional meetings".

"We are all interested in solving, in a conciliated and joint manner, problems of different sources, from the confrontation of climate change and the global economic crisis, threats to peace and security, to gender issues and youth," she added.

 

In the context of the meeting, other relevant issues were also addressed, such as the phenomenon of migration, and aspects included in the proposed final declaration to be approved by the heads of state and government.

 

"The draft Luanda Declaration contains a condemnation of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the Government of the United States of America against our country and, in particular, the Helms-Burton Act, which codifies that policy of aggression", said the Cuban Vice Minister.
