More than 7.5 million people have access to the Internet in Cuba
Havana, Dec 13 (RHC) Cuban Communications Minister Mayra Arevich affirmed Tuesday that more than 7.5 million people have access to Internet in the country, despite the limitations imposed by the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade.
During the 10th Ordinary Session of Parliament, which is being held at the Havana Convention Palace, the official presented a report on the development of this sector in the Caribbean nation.
According to the report, the average monthly consumption grew six times between December 2019 and July 2022 (from 1.1 Gb to 6.6 Gb), which was mainly influenced by the increased use of the Internet during the Covid-19 pandemic, the increase in teleworking and tele training services.
The storage and processing capacity of the Public Data Centers also doubled, mainly motivated by the development of digital government and e-commerce.
The number of families with connectivity service reached 269,440, although it is still 7.0 percent of the total; there are also 2,358 public navigation areas.
"All this ratifies the country's political will to favor Cuban’s access and use of the Internet, inclusively and responsibly, for their welfare, defense, and development of the country," Arevich said.
The report presented showed that the U.S. blockade is the main obstacle to have more access to the network of networks, information, and communication technologies in general. (Source: PL)
