Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez

Havana, Dec 19 (RHC) On Monday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez highlighted the Caribbean nation's ties with small island states in the Pacific Ocean.

Through his Twitter account, the foreign minister released a message celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Solomon Islands.

He added that this year Cuba celebrates two decades of diplomatic relations with other states in that region, such as Nauru, Tonga, Fiji, Kiribati and Cook Islands.

Rodriguez noted that Havana attaches high priority to its ties of friendship and cooperation with the small island states of the Pacific.

Cuba has official ties with 14 nations in that region and since 2017 established a diplomatic mission in Suva, Fiji, with concurrence in 11 states, marking a renewed commitment to the South Pacific.

More than a hundred young people from the Pacific islands are trained in Cuban universities, most of them in medical specialties.

In 2019, a high-level Cuban delegation participated in the 50th Pacific Islands Forum, in the Republic of Tuvalu, a space in which the countries of the area ratified the condemnation of the US blockade. (Source: PL)
