Havana, Dec 19 (RHC) On Monday, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel received in Havana, the foreign minister of Kenya, Alfred Mutua, during a meeting in which both parties ratified the will to strengthen relations.

 

At the Palace of the Revolution, the president ratified the willingness to expand exchanges with the African nation.

 

According to Information published on Twitter by the Cuban Presidency, during the meeting, Mutua affirmed that the two countries are brothers, and thanked the support of the Caribbean Island in the liberation struggles of Africa.

 

Díaz-Canel sent greetings to Kenyan President William Ruto, congratulated him on his election, wished him success in his administration, and extended an invitation to visit Cuba.

 

Havana and Nairobi established diplomatic relations in 1995, and bilateral cooperation is developed mainly in the education and health sectors.

 

Diplomatic sources of the African nation recently announced the country's interest in extending the agreements to sports, the biopharmaceutical industry, trade, agriculture, and culture.

 

This year, Cuba's Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez visited Kenya.

 

Cuba and Kenya are holding talks at the highest level, and are taking steps to achieve the safe return of two doctors kidnapped in April 2019 in the city of Mandera, northeastern Kenya, near the border with Somalia and a target of attacks by the Somali armed group Al Shabab. (Source: PL)
