Johana Tablada, Deputy director general for the United States at the Cuban Foreign Ministry

Havana, Dec 25 (RHC) Deputy director general for the United States at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Johana Tablada affirmed that after five years of Washington’s non-compliance with migration agreements with the largest Antillean Island, at this moment progress can be seen.

In statements to Radio Reloj, the official mentioned the unjustified closure of the U.S. consulate in Havana based on extravagant and false accusations about alleged attacks on diplomats, which even the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) has recognized as unsustainable.

She recalled that after the first round of talks in Washington on the migration issuance in 2018, the United States began to grant visas to try to meet the no less than 20 thousand per year pledged

"Then would come the announcement that consular operations for Cubans absurdly transferred to Guyana would return to Havana at the beginning of 2023," Tablada specified.

She indicated that the northern nation fulfilled the annual quota of visas, but not the one accumulated in the years in which it did not grant them.

The diplomat explained that they are only issuing visas for family reunification, not including non-immigrant visas, that is, those through which more than 200,000 Cubans traveled and returned, without leaving the country definitively.

Johana Tablada considered it contradictory that while Washington advocates for greater socioeconomic investment in nations of the area with high migratory flows, insists on collapsing Cuba's economy and making life more difficult for its population.

She also pointed out the incentives that the U.S. maintains for Cuba’s irregular migration, and how it fails to comply with part of the agreements of non-admission of people arriving at its southern border using that route. (Source: Radio Reloj)
