Quito, Jan 12 (RHC) Ecuadorian sociologist Irene Leon, member of the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity, greeted on Thursday the presidency of Cuba in the G77+China.

The communicator also said that giving priority to solidarity promotion, international cooperation, and supporting post-pandemic recovery for countries of the South, Cuba will be at the head of this bloc.

We can't be in better hands, a good part of the world under its leadership, said León in her social networks. As of today, the Caribbean nation is at the head of the G77+China, a leadership that evidences the recognition of its defense of the interests of the southern nations.

During the handover ceremony, which was held by Pakistan, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel urged to articulate actions to overcome the obstacles to the real progress of the people.

The president insisted on his country's commitment to work for the development of nations with which -he said- Cuba shares a history of abuses, but also of common goals and hopes.

Likewise, the island's Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, insisted on strengthening alliances within the organization in what he described as difficult times. "Only by building consensus we will be able to advance towards the realization of our legitimate aspirations for development," he added.

The group is made up of 134 of the 193 UN members, representing 80 percent of the world's population.

The Secretary General of the multilateral organization, Antonio Guterres, referred to the weight of the bloc within the United Nations and called on this group of nations to work on two objectives this 2023: justice and ambition to advance in the common agenda. (Source: Prensa Latina).
