Cuba ratifies commitment and support to the Polisario Front

El Aaiun, January 14 (RHC)-- Cuba ratified Saturday its commitment and support to the Polisario Front in its struggle for the independence and sovereignty of the Sahrawi people, on the second day of the 16th Congress of the Arab organization.

During the intervention before of the conclave’s plenary taking place in the Saharawi refugee camps in Algerian territory, Yudí Rodríguez Hernández, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), reiterated the solidarity of his country with the cause of this people, Prensa Latina reported.

I bring the mandate to convey our firm conviction that we will never stop accompanying the Polisario 
and its heroic people in the struggle for independence and sovereignty, said the leader in reference to the message of the first secretary and Cuban president Miguel Díaz Canel.

Rodriguez Hernandez, who evoked the memory of the first martyr of the Saharawi cause, Emhamed Jadad, and the former president of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Mohamed Abdelaziz, also referred to the presence in these places, of Commander Juan Almeida and his book "Something new in the desert".

Underlining the involvement of the Caribbean nation, which offers sustained medical collaboration, to the educational system, in addition to scholarships, he highlighted the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at the Havana summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1979.

"Cuba, which has no particular dispute with Morocco, expresses its full support for the independence of the Saharawi people, considering the occupation of its territory absolutely unfounded and its aspiration to free self-determination unquestionably just," Fidel Castro said at the time.

He also added that "the right to independence of the courageous Saharawi people and its legitimate representation, the Polisario Front, must be recognized by all."

Rodriguez Hernandez pointed out that these same considerations have had continuity in the successive leaderships of Raul Castro and currently, Miguel Diaz Canel.

On the other hand, the Cuban leader took the opportunity to offer an overview of the largest of the Antilles at this time, after going through climatic situations, major accidents, energy problems, all in the midst of the tightening of the U.S. blockade, maintained for more than 60 years.

Furthermore, he reiterated the conviction that the Cuban people and the Cuban Revolution will emerge victorious from the new challenges and will manage to overcome the obstacles of the blockade, he called for the cause of the Polisario Front and raised the slogan "Sahara Libre YA."
