Havana, Jan 17 (RHC) The U.S. Coast Guard returned 82 irregular migrants to Cuba on Monday during the seventh operation of this kind that complies with bilateral agreements.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of the Interior, Cuban citizens were received by local authorities at the port of Orozco, in the western Cuban province of Artemisa.

With the 13 women and 69 men returned, who participated in 13 illegal departures by sea, there are now 1,052 people involved in these operations. This corresponds to the Joint Declaration between the governments of Cuba and the United States, on January 12, 2017.

The purpose of this document is to normalize migratory relations and to guarantee regular, safe, and orderly migration. Recently, Joe Biden's administration announced new migratory measures to curb the flow of people across the border with Mexico.

Cuban authorities ratified compliance with bilateral agreements contributes to reduce irregular migration and warned about persisting incentives such as the Cuban Adjustment Act, the politically motivated preferential treatment of Cubans, and the intensified blockade measures (Source: Prensa Latina).
