Cuba praises commitment to move towards peace in Colombia

Havana, Jan 21 (RHC) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez hailed the commitment of the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrillas to move forward in the search for peace.

 

In his Twitter account, the highest representative of the island's diplomacy pointed out that such a coincidence of purpose was expressed in the Extraordinary Meeting held by both parties in Caracas, Venezuela, which concluded this day.

 

With the accompaniment of the guarantor countries (Cuba, Chile, Mexico, Norway, and Venezuela), the UN, and the Episcopal Conference, delegations of the Colombian Government and the National Liberation Army met this week in the Venezuelan capital to solve a disagreement that arose as a result of the announcement of the Executive of the bilateral cease-fire.

 

After the meeting, the guarantors and the institutions accompanying the peace negotiations emphasized through a communiqué, the commitment of the parties to advance in the dialogues.

 

They also thanked Venezuela for its hospitality and for guaranteeing the means for this process to move forward and welcomed Mexico's willingness to host the next round of these talks.

 

They also welcomed the Humanitarian Caravan being carried out in Chocó and Valle del Cauca as part of the agreements reached at the negotiating table to improve the situation of the communities affected by the conflict (Source: Prensa Latina).
