Cuban President said there is no link between science and production

Havana, Jan 27 (RHC) During an analysis of the country's scientific projects to increase food production, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel said Friday that there is still a lack of connection between knowledge and production.

Before experts of the National Innovation Council, the dignitary said that the scientific results of greater impact have been the introduction of some varieties developed in the country, but the pace is slow and scientific potential is yet to be exploited.

He added that the Ministry of Agriculture is currently developing a strategy for the management of science and innovation aimed at producing food, one of the country's urgent needs.

During this first meeting of the year of the working team, the Group of the Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Industries of Cuba (BioCubaFarma) presented the development and implementation of advanced technologies for food production in segments of the industry, veterinary and agricultural activity.

The group's vice president, Eulogio Pimentel, told Cuban television that since 2020, projects have

been developed to increase the production of grains and veterinary vaccines as well as diagnostics to detect plant and animal diseases.

He added that many of these initiatives are close to start generating concrete results, but in this strategy all the country's economic actors are fundamental.

Established during the Covid-19 pandemic as part of the government's work strategy, the National Innovation Council brings together experts, businessmen, and officials to promote programs to solve the country's urgencies. (Source: Prensa Latina)
