Havana, Feb 19 (RHC) Indonesian Ambassador to Cuba, Nana Yuliana, recognized Prensa Latina News Agency for its seriousness and professionalism in covering the news of that Southeast Asian country.
The diplomat gave the award to Luis Enrique González, president of that media group, at the celebration ceremony in Havana for the 63rd anniversary of the relations between Cuba and Indonesia, in which she emphasized that priority is being given to strengthening them in the political, economic, trade and investment fields.
As a contribution to these ties to bring the people closer through information, Prensa Latina and the Indonesian news agency ANTARA are currently reviewing a draft cooperation, news exchange, and journalistic support agreement to be signed soon.
The colorful activity that highlighted aspects of the culture of that Southeast Asian nation was attended by ambassadors and other members of the diplomatic corps and representing the Cuban government were Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodriguez; Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Deborah Rivas; and the director of Asia of the Foreign Ministry, Hector Blanco, as well as officials from other institutions.
Cuba has become an important commercial partner for Indonesia in the Caribbean region, said the head of Mission who referred to a hotel chain since her country manages six first-class establishments on the island.
The Archipelago International group manages the Grand Aston hotels in Havana, Varadero, Cayo Las Brujas, Cayo Coco, and Holguin.
Due to the pandemic, trade exchange declined somewhat, "but the numbers do not reflect the real potential that both countries have to develop economic ties," she said.
The ambassador recalled that Jakarta made official ties with Cuba on January 22, 1960, after the visit of Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara to her country in July 1959, and in June 1960 then President Sukarno was the first dignitary to visit Havana after the triumph of the Revolution.
"And today, 63 years after that beginning, relations are getting stronger," said Nana Yuliana who listed the 2022 visits of high-level officials to Cuba that culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding on visa exemption.
She illustrated that both governments have supported each other in numerous international conclaves such as the support for candidacies to the UN Security Council, the Human Rights Council, and the International Telecommunications Union, among others.
The Indonesian government has maintained its firm position of rejecting the US policy of economic, commercial, and financial war against the island, she stressed.
Nine young people from that country graduated in Cuba and another three are pursuing higher studies, while sports collaboration was resumed; a boxing coach began working with the national team.
