Cuba’s Parliament challenge is to improve society altogether

Havana, Mar 9 (RHC) We have the challenge of spreading the beauty of Cuba's political system, the people exercising power, and the importance of adding more people to improve society, a candidate for delegate said.

The president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Guantanamo (east), Idaliena Diaz, nominated to the island’s Parliament for a third term of office, is convinced of the value of the government structure whose cornerstone is the constituency delegate.

The delegate is the person to whom everyone knocks on the door any day and at any time, because he or she is your neighbor, faces the same difficulties, and is there to represent, guide, inform, and above all encourage the much-needed popular participation, Diaz who has been in that position since 2011 pointed out.

However, she emphasized the relevance of citizen involvement in governmental control and in the solution of community problems. Cuba would not be the same, our democracy would not be the same without the delegates.

These are part of the decision-making in the municipality and are the guarantee that these decisions are similar to the needs of our population, she said.

Diaz, who went from the grassroots delegate to the president of a popular council, vice-president of the municipal assembly, and current president, first became a deputy in 2013, when she was only 24 years old and repeated another term in 2018.

If elected next March 26 in the national elections, it will be her third time to occupy a seat and face a task that she described as beautiful and challenging.

Guantanamo’s Municipal Assembly president defends the need to improve popular participation through popular control and transformation from the communities and municipalities, with the use of endogenous resources.

On this path, she needs to promote, from the actions of the cadres, greater participation of the population in local decision-making.  (Source: Prensa Latina)
