Havana, March 18 (RHC) The Cuban ambassador to Panama, Víctor Cairo, and Panama professionals who graduated from study centers in Cuba, met today in the western Panamanian province of Chiquirí to discuss on the US blockade on Cuba.

Manuel Pardo, on behalf of this group, stressed that despite the US government’s siege of Cuba, progress is evident in areas such as biotechnology, health, social sciences, education, sports and culture, among others.

Pardo recalled that Cuba has been able to share what it has and creatively face new unilateral measures from Washington to suffocate the nation; Panamanians have benefited from this with eye operations or the presence of members of the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade, in the confrontation with Covid-19, in 2020 and 2021.

Pardo also pointed out the importance of spreading the truth about Cuba which, despite economic pressures in the midst of the pandemic, developed its own vaccines that saved lives in Panama and other nations around the world. The stay of the Cuban diplomat in Chiriquí included visits to the National Agricultural Organization, meetings with producers and participation in the cultural evening called "Lazos de Amistad entre los Pueblos" and the David International Fair.

As part of the tour, Cairo was received the day before in the neighboring province of Veraguas by Governor Manuel Castillo and the mayor of the city of Santiago de Veraguas, Samid Sandoval, with whom he discussed health, sports and tourism issues. (Source: PL)
