Havana, April 8 (RHC)-- The French Communist Party (PCF) presented this Saturday, on the second day of its 39th Congress, an initiative to support Cuba in the face of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States and its extraterritorial scope.

According to Prensa Latina, at the Palais du Pharo in Marseille and in the presence of the Caribbean nation's ambassador to France, Otto Vaillant, the young leader of the organization Charlotte Balavoine told delegates that the actions will have two levels, a political level to demand the end of the siege applied for more than six decades and a practical one with socioeconomic support measures.

Our campaign aims to demand the end of the blockade and remove Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, and also to obtain financial and material support at all levels, she stressed.

According to Balavoine, the initiative promoted by the national secretary of the PCF, Fabien Roussel, requires the accompaniment of communist militants, in joint work with associations, unions, colleagues, and friends from other parts of Europe and elected, local, regional, and national authorities.

In this regard, she mentioned the importance of reaching agreements and alliances with the Island, as well as cooperation in the sectors of cultural and sports exchange, to curb the consequences of a blockade reinforced by the administration of Donald Trump, aggressiveness maintained by his successor in the White House, Joseph Biden.

The leader also stressed the objective of the campaign to put pressure on the French government given the impact of the siege on French companies, banks, and citizens, to whom Washington's policy prevents normal relations with Cuba and its people.

It is not enough to vote once a year in favor of the resolution presented at the UN against the blockade, we must put pressure so that our companies and territorial collectivities that want to trade and have ties with Cuba can do so without extraterritorial sanctions, she affirmed.

Balavoine recognized the achievements of the Cuban Revolution in health, education, and science, among them the creation of its vaccines against Covid-19, and highlighted the value of internationalism, shared between that political project and the French communists.

Ambassador Vaillant thanked the PCF for its support and conveyed to the 39th Congress a message of friendship and fraternity from the Cuban communists and the people of the Antillean nation. (Source: PL)
