Comprehensive care for transgender children and adolescents is defended in Cuba

Havana, May 5 (RHC)  Cuba’s National Center for Sexual Education of Cuba (CENESEX) today has among its main challenges to achieve comprehensive care for transgender children and adolescents, something that would contribute to their mental and emotional well-being.

Mariela Castro, CENESEX general director, explained that one of the challenges identified is the monitoring of trans children and adolescents in various directions, with emphasis on the family, school, community, health and communication spheres.

At the 7th Internatinal Trans-Identities, Gender and Culture Colloquium at the CENESEX headquarters in Havana, Castro lamented that the transgender issue of childhood and adolescence is not reflected in social media.

She pointed out that the policies for the issue of trans people must work in the territories to be effective, and that it is vital to integrate trans people into the knowledge system of undergraduate and postgraduate professional training.

Castro considered that the Civil Status Registry Law be urgently approved, since it will prevent trans people from having to transform their bodies so that the law recognizes their identity. Castro advocated the development of a glossary of terms to make it easier to build concepts and establish dialogues. (Source: Prensa Latina)
