Heritage book draws bridges of friendship between Cuba and France

Havana, May 12 (RHC) Irán Millán, curator from the Cuban province of Cienfuegos, stated today that the book Cienfuegos, the Pearl of Cuba constitutes a patrimonial work and consolidates the historical ties between the island and France.

Millán is carrying out an intense program in Paris, and highlighted the French edition of the text as a vehicle to strengthen bilateral ties and publicize the cultural treasures of Cienfuegos.

This city in the center of Cuba was founded in 1819 by French colonists and its Urban Historic Center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005.

According to the Cuban curator, it is also an old desire of Cienfuegos and researchers when collecting the history of this port city, with housing as a common thread and approached chronologically.

For Millán, Cienfuegos, La Perla de Cuba represents a work that is worth consulting and treasuring for various reasons, ranging from its depth and rich information, to the quality of its images, the work of photographer Julio Larramendi. The text is also a tribute to the city and a recognition to its specialists, who provided an identity stamp.

Millán thanked the Cuba Coopération France association, involved in various socioeconomic development projects in Cienfuegos, for making the French edition of the book possible and for its almost two-decade support.

Similarly, he highlighted the support of Yahima Esquivel, Cuban ambassador to UNESCO, and the members of the island's mission in the multilateral organization, where the work was presented in the presence of managers, diplomats from various countries, and friends from Cuba.

The launch of the French edition of Cienfuegos, La Perla de Cuba was attended by Firmin Edouard Matoko, Deputy Director General of UNESCO for Priority Africa and Foreign Relations; and Lazare Eloundou Assomo, director of the World Heritage Center. (Source: Prensa Latina)
