Third Cuba-European Union Joint Council will meet in Havana

Havana, May 23 (RHC) Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell Fontelles, will preside over the third Joint Council between both parties, which will meet in Havana on May 26.

According to information from the Cuban Foreign Ministry, during the Joint Council the status of the implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement (ADPC) signed on December 12, 2016 between Cuba and the EU and its Member States will be evaluated. It began to be provisionally implemented on November 1, 2017.

Since then, this agreement has constituted the regulatory framework for relations, establishing the bases for the development of stable, mutually beneficial and long-term ties, based on principles of mutual respect, reciprocity and equality, the communication highlights.

The upcoming Joint Council is preceded by the holding of the third Joint Committee (Havana, December 2, 2022), chaired by senior diplomatic representatives of Cuba and the European Foreign Action Service.

On that occasion, both delegations exchanged on the ratification process of the ADPC, the results of the third cycle of political and sectoral dialogues (2021-2022), as well as on cooperation, trade and investment relations, and the negative impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States as well as the inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

During his stay in Havana, Josep Borrell Fontelles will complete an extensive program, which will include meetings with authorities and representatives of various sectors of Cuban society. He will also make visits to institutions where the results of cooperation between Cuba and the EU can be appreciated and their potentialities identified.

Cuba established diplomatic relations with the European Community on September 29, 1988 and has full diplomatic ties with the 27 member states of that bloc. (Source: ACN)
