Havana, May 24 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez highlighted on Wednesday the deep cultural roots that unite this Caribbean nation with Africa, which -he said- endure and strengthen.

In his Twitter profile, the top Cuban diplomat referred to the opening of the visual arts exhibition: "Mírame Madre. African Heritage and Cuban Contemporary Art", in the context of the celebrations in this nation for Africa Day, on May 25.

Since Tuesday, the International Press Center is hosting the exhibition, which gathers the creations of Cuban artists who, from the 1960s to the present, continued with the research and artistic production of Cuba's avant-garde of the last century.

The works reflect themes such as ethnic, religious, festive, historical, political, personal or intimate, with the intention of endorsing the place of nations, individually or collectively, in the world.

The set of pieces includes political posters and historical photographs on the Caribbean island's relations with African countries.

On the occasion of the anniversary, recently the president of the Cuban Parliament, Esteban Lazo, led a meeting of deputies of that body with representatives of the African diplomatic corps accredited in this Caribbean nation, in which they ratified the existing close ties.

Africa Day commemorates the creation of the Organization of African Unity, precursor of the African Union, on May 25, 1963, in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, at a time particularly marked by the rise of popular decolonization movements. (Source:PL)
