Cooperation actions with Cuba are consolidated in France
Havana, July 8 (RHC) The Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop) association discussed today the progress of its socio-economic support projects on the island and ratified the will to promote them in the second semester of the current year.
Water and sanitation, health, culture and sports stand out among the areas of a collaboration that is approaching 30 years, after the creation in 2015 of the organization, which held its general assembly this Saturday.
According to the president of CubaCoop, Victor Fernandez, the intensification of the US blockade against Cuba makes support more necessary than ever, due to its severe impact. Fernández stressed the priority of seeking funding from authorities, territories, companies and foundations in France, in order to consolidate projects and promote new initiatives.
For his part, the first vice president of the association, Miguel Quintero, explained at the meeting the status of the petition delivered to the European Parliament in January to demand that the European Union (EU) take a forceful position against the US blockade and its extraterritorial scope.
In this sense, he highlighted that the Petitions Committee declared admissible the proposal presented by CubaCoop and organizations from Spain, Italy and Sweden, which opens new spaces in the fight against the siege imposed by Washington more than six decades ago.
Quintero also shared the success of the first Vitry-sur-Siene Cuban Film Festival, held last month in the commune of the Parisian Region, with films such as El Benny, Fresa y Chocolate, and Conducta.
In the General Assembly, the founding president Roger Grevoul pointed out the actions to increase the reach of the Lettre électronique hebdo, a communication tool with 13,000 subscribers, which reflects the reality of Cuba, its people and its Revolution.
Regarding sports, Vice President Manuel Pascual updated the members of the association on the project aimed at supporting Cuban athletes in their preparation and acclimatization for the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Pascual emphasized on the coordination established with more than twenty communes in France for the reception of athletes from the island in training and competition bases. Athletics, boxing, fencing, judo, swimming, taekwondo, shooting and volleyball stand out among the disciplines. (Source: PL)
