Havana, July 24 (RHC)-- Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, began a tour of the province of Santiago de Cuba on Monday, the site of activities marking the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada Barracks.

As reported by the Presidency on Twitter, the head of state was accompanied by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

The head of state toured the 26th of July Historical Museum, where a new museum design is being carried out to provide better information on the Moncada Barracks Attack through the use of new technologies.

The work should be completed by October 16, on the 70th anniversary of the historic plea of History Will Absolve Me. Still unfinished, the information it provides is already superior and of higher quality on one of the most important events in the country's history.

Díaz-Canel also visited the Juan Manuel Amejeiras Delgado elementary school, which is part of the 26 de Julio School City, and has received constructive maintenance to improve its facilities, as well as the Pioneer Explorers Camp "Asalto al Cuartel Moncada", where some 250 pioneers from Santiago attend.

The tour also included the XX Anniversary Polyclinic, located in the Siboney popular council, which in 2012 was practically destroyed by the powerful Hurricane Sandy. After a capital repair, it now serves a population of more than 15 thousand people. The tour then continued to the José Luis Tassende Stomatology Clinic, in the center of the city, which has also been repaired.

During his tour, President Díaz-Canel visited the home of Saavedra and Yolanda, a married couple who have turned their home into a productive space in the middle of the Sueño neighborhood. On the house's 16 square meter slab, they have planted vegetables and condiments.

After supplying their needs, this couple - he a journalist and she a retired university professor - donate their produce to hospitals, maternity homes and homes for children without family support.
