Havana, September 8 (RHC) –- Cuban women play a crucial role in the economic and political development of the country as a result of the defense of their full rights through the years of socialist revolution.

Women make up 46 percent of state labor and over 65 percent of professionals and technicians, while 39 percent develop executive posts.

The general secretary of the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC), Teresa Amarelle, said during the 9th Congress of that organization that women participate in important decision-taking processes in the country.

Amarelle recalled that 60.4 percent of all doctors are women, 53 percent of them work in the scientific sector participating in international cooperation projects. They also represent 48 percent of parliamentarians.

In the social field and as part of their national organization, Cuban women contribute to the early detection of family problems, school drop-outs, attention to senior citizens and single mothers, among other issues.

The women’s organization also develops an agenda focusing on the struggle against social indiscipline, the appropriate performance of local communities in terms of the relations between the family, school and work centers and the instruction of young women to develop different social, economic and political responsibilities.
