Presidents of Cuba and Angola will hold official talks for strengthening bilateral relations
Havana, Aug 21 (RHC) Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel and his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, will hold official talks this Monday and will review bilateral relations, marked by deep roots of friendship and solidarity.
The Cuban president is accompanied by a delegation made up of ministers, vice ministers and representatives of various organizations, with the purpose of dialogue with their local counterparts to strengthen cooperation in various areas of common interest.
They are expected to sign several agreements and memorandums of understanding, which give continuity to the guidelines established by the intergovernmental commission, whose fifteenth session took place last April in Havana.
Both parties spoke out for finding mutually advantageous opportunities to increase participation in different sectors of the two countries and project their relations towards the geographical environment of each one, Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean.
The day before, in dialogue with a representation of more than 200 Cuban collaborators in Angola, Díaz-Canel pointed out the island's interest in strengthening bilateral exchange in the field of science and innovation.
The president of the Caribbean nation has a busy schedule this Monday in Luanda, which includes a speech before the National Assembly (unicameral Congress), where he will be received with military honors.
The welcome message will be in charge of the president of the Legislature, Carolina Cerqueira, and at the end of the Solemn Plenary Meeting the Cuban president will sign the Book of Honor in the Noble Hall of the Legislative headquarters.
In addition, he will talk with Cubans residing in Angola and members of solidarity groups with the island. He will also pay tribute to the 2,085 Cuban combatants who offered their lives together with the Angolan people in the fight to preserve independence, in addition to other 204 who died while they performed civil tasks.
The head of state of the Caribbean nation arrived yesterday at the 4 de Febrero international airport, where he was received by the Angolan foreign minister, Téte António, among other authorities. (Source: PL)
