Havana, August 23 (Prensa Latina)-- The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) celebrates today 63 years of its foundation focused on the development of policies to achieve the full exercise of equality of women in all areas of society.

With recreational and cultural actions from all communities, the Federation celebrates this new anniversary, and among the essential activities is the XI Congress of the organization, whose balances in delegations and blocks throughout the national territory are still being developed.

The secretary general of the FMC, Teresa Amarelle, said recently at a press conference that the debates in preparation for the conclave are focused on improving the work of the organization and on increasing the leadership of the younger federates.

Amarelle pointed out that the anniversary celebrations of this grouping - which brings together more than four million Cuban women - include dialogues in popular councils and work centers for the prevention of gender violence, which have yielded positive results and serve as support for those who have been victims of this phenomenon.

The official stressed that the 63 years of the FMC speak of a unitary organization that pays tribute to its main architects: the historic leader Fidel Castro and the heroine Vilma Espín Guillois, who was its founder and secretary.

She also highlighted the work of the federates and the State and the Government in implementing the National Program for the Advancement of Women, which has allowed, during its two years of existence, the creation of 115 children's homes, the generation of jobs and the incorporation of the female population in non-traditional trades.

Among the achievements of the organization, it is also noteworthy that in 2023 the Cuban Observatory on Gender Equality, created with the advice of the Economic Council for Latin America and enriched with the information provided by the recent National Fertility Survey, was set up.

Created on August 23, 1960, at the dawn of the Cuban Revolution, the Federation made it possible for women on the island to have their own space where they could discuss their concerns and be part of the social, economic and political transformations of the time.
