Havana, September 10 (RHC) -- Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero on Sunday congratulated the more than 7,000 members of the Social Workers program, on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of its creation.

Through his account on X, formerly Twitter, the Cuban head of government acknowledged the dedication and devotion with which this humanitarian work is carried out, a force created by the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro.

In a recent meeting of the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, with members of the Government, the strengthening of this contingent and its expansion to 10,000 members in the next two years was announced.

In September 2022 and last May, Díaz-Canel held meetings with a broad representation of this force, most of whom started when they were very young and today lead People's Councils (electoral demarcation), and some are deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament).

The purpose of these exchanges of ideas "is to strengthen this army of humanist vocation, in order to revitalize social programs and projects that benefit the most disadvantaged in the communities, said the Antillean head of state last May.
