Havana, September 19 (RHC) -- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has called for a new global contract in the face of the economic challenges faced by the countries of the South due to the inequalities of the financial system.

At the General Debate of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Cuban leader pointed out that the G77 and China, a negotiating bloc chaired for the first time by the Caribbean nation, have much to contribute to the multilateralism that the planet needs.

"That group of diverse peoples with common problems raised their voices recently in Havana against the order formed by a minority of the most powerful countries and developing nations," he said.

He recalled that 60 years ago, the members of the G 77 and China came together with the unavoidable challenge of changing that global architecture, which is unsustainable for the planet.

Díaz-Canel added that the countries represented by that forum "not only have the challenge of development but also that of modifying the structures that put us at a disadvantage".

"A new global contract is urgently needed," he insisted, recalling that the efforts of the countries of the South are not enough to achieve the 2030 Agenda.
