Cuba strengthens ties in the European Parliament

Havana, Nov 14 (RHC) The secretary of the National Assembly and the Council of State of Cuba, Homero Acosta, and the vice president of the European Parliament, Marc Angel, spoke today in Brussels on topics such as multilateralism and inclusion.

They addressed the importance of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and the island and its expression in parliamentary ties.

Regarding the challenges facing humanity, the Cuban deputy and his host, Luxembourg MEP and member of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, exchanged views on the role of multilateralism and the contribution of the European Union and Latin America in that scenario.

In this regard, Angel celebrated the holding last July in Brussels of the Third Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac).

Social issues were also at the center of the agenda of the meeting, which followed Acosta's meeting with European parliamentarians from various countries and political forces, and in which the Cuban ambassador to Belgium and to the European Union, Yaira Jiménez, participated.

Acosta shared with the vice president of the European Parliament details of the Cuban situation, marked by the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States more than six decades ago. In this regard, Angel expressed his opposition to this policy and to the inclusion of Cuba in Washington's unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

The secretary of the National Assembly and the Council of State recognized the global condemnation of the US siege, also rejected by the European Union.

At the beginning of this month, 187 of the 193 member states of the United Nations supported in the General Assembly, for the thirty-first time since 1992, a resolution calling for an end to the blockade, which only the United States and its ally Israel opposed. (Source: PL)
