Havana, January 5 (RHC)--The National Revolutionary Police (PNR) of Cuba commemorates today the 65th anniversary of its creation, accompanying the different processes of the people and government of the Caribbean nation.

The PNR emerged from the very heart of the Rebel Army on January 5, 1959, at the initiative of then Commander Raúl Castro, chief of the Second Eastern Front Frank País García.

Furthermore, its creation was aimed at having an exemplary institution that would erase from the memory of Cubans the image of repression, abuses and corruption that characterized that body during the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958).

Today, its fundamental mission is focused on the preservation of public order, public tranquility and road safety.

The PNR performs various tasks, all with a high level of commitment and responsibility. Thus, they contribute to the fight against crime, fires, the safeguarding of natural resources, attention to minors with negative behavior, and the security and physical protection of the facilities of state agencies and entities, among other tasks (Source: Prensa Latina).
