Cuba shows progress in nuclear energy research, in collaboration with Russia and the International Atomic Energy Agency

Havana, Jan 27 (RHC) Cuba’s Agency for Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies (AENTA) reported several of its results in collaboration with Russia and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Among the most notable achievements that received mention at the institution’s annual assembly were the biocompatible carbon nanoparticles encapsulated with metal ions for the improvement of magnetic resonance images, from the Center for Advanced Studies.

Advanced methodologies and tools for combined studies of the positron emission tomography and computed tomography system are other results, which will contribute to the development of new drugs in Cuba, led by the Isotopes and Technological Applications and Nuclear Development centers.

Such results for Cuba are achieved despite the limitations and scarcity of material resources caused mainly by the economic blockade and harassment by the United States government against the Caribbean country.

The Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies Agency, attached to the island's Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, is the focal point for collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

In that sense, AENTA manages projects and provides scientific-technological services and high value-added products related to nuclear technologies, renewable energy sources and other advanced technologies, which contribute to the sustainable development of the country. (Source: PL)
