Havana, January 27 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today highlighted the tributes taking place in the country on the occasion of the 171st anniversary of the birth of National Hero José Martí.

This morning the Cuban squares were filled with children in a beautiful tribute to Martí; tonight we are going with the young people to the steps of the University of Havana, the head of state highlighted on the social network X.

Díaz-Canel stressed on the platform that the imprint of the National Hero "guides and will continue to guide the soul of the nation".

On Saturday night, Cuba's youth will reedit the traditional march of the Torches, which starts from the steps of the University of Havana to the Forge Martiana, the place where the Apostle was imprisoned for his libertarian ideas as a teenager.

The tribute, known here as the most universal of Cubans, also has as protagonists the children of the island, who celebrated on this day massive parades in several cities in honor of Marti.

Likewise, cultural institutions, work centers, schools, youth organizations throughout the country pay tribute to the National Hero, through initiatives to promote and disseminate his legacy.

José Martí was a distinguished patriot and outstanding politician, writer, thinker, teacher and journalist, fallen in combat against the Spanish colonialist troops on May 19, 1895.    (Source: Prensa Latina)
