Peñalver remarked that nothing can justify Israel's genocide and philosophy of disposession applied to Gaza

Havana, Jan 31 (RHC) The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Gerardo Peñalver, today rejected the use of a “philosophy of dispossession” applied by Israel that causes a humanitarian catastrophe of extreme proportions for civilians in Gaza.

At a plenary meeting of the Committee for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Peñalver remarked that nothing can justify such barbarity, and demanded an immediate ceasefire.

He reiterated Cuba’s support for South Africa's lawsuit before the International Court of Justice regarding Israel's violations of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

The permanent representative of Cuba to the UN denounced the deprivation of water, food, electricity and fuel services in the occupied territories, actions that he considered flagrant violations of international humanitarian law.

He urged an end to the impunity with which Tel Aviv acts, which can only be explained by its confidence that it will not be held accountable for its actions, as it has the support of the United States government and other allies in the of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

He also considered it unacceptable that the Security Council continues not to enforce its own resolutions to put an end to Israel's crimes, and pointed out the United States as a historical accomplice by obstructing and repeatedly using the veto for that purpose.

The diplomat added that Cuba supports the call for an International Peace Conference with the purpose of guaranteeing the exercise of the rights of the Palestinian people, and aspires to the soon entry of its State as a full member of the United Nations.

According to Peñalver, this must be based on the two-state solution that allows the Palestinians the right to self-determination and to have their independence and sovereignty with East Jerusalem as its capital and the pre-1967 borders, as well as the  guarantee of the right of refugees to return.
