Cuba, Brazil and UAE announce initiative on food security

 

Havana, Feb 13 (RHC) The Cuban ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Norberto Escalona, ​​ today announced a joint initiative with Brazil and the UAE to improve collaboration on food security.

The agreement, discussed this Tuesday on the diplomat's X account, was reached during the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), held in Dubai from November 30 to last December.

The Emirati news agency WAM also echoed the tripartite agreement that aims to deliver food aid worth 50 million dollars, which will be sent from Brazil.

According to a note from the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the initiative is part of joint efforts aimed at developing resilient food systems, sustainable agriculture and promoting climate action.

The UAE will provide financial support to improve the adaptability of food systems and increase investments in specialized projects in the production, distribution and support of nutritious, healthy and sustainable food systems.

In this regard, the Minister of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, said that it will be a contribution to safeguarding the environment and limiting the repercussions of climate change that affect producers.

He added that it is a sign of his country's commitment to addressing global challenges, sustainability and renewable energy, as well as recognition of the importance of collective action.

Meanwhile, the director of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency, Ambassador Ruy Pereira, said that through this operation the three countries make public their firm will to collaborate together to support the food and nutritional security of the Cuban population. (Source: PL)
