Havana, March 23 (RHC)-- Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, called on Saturday for prudence to the people, following the passage of heavy rains that have hit the west of the country since Friday.

From his account on the social network X, the Head of State commented on the meeting held with the main executives of the territory and assured that the situation generated in the capital by the heavy rains is being followed with attention.

Hard work is being done and everything has been put in function of the recovery in the shortest possible time, he wrote in his message on the social network.

"We are following the situation generated in the capital by the intense rains. Early we met with the main managers of the province. Hard work is being done and everything has been put in function of recovery in the shortest possible time. We ask for prudence to our people".

Vicente de la O Levy, head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, also informed on the social network that 29 support brigades are ready to provide services in the recovery of the western part of the island.

In the midst of the complexities, the altruism and solidarity of our people are our greatest resources, he said.

In statements to the press team of the Presidency, Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party in the capital, pointed out that there were places where more than 300 millimeters of water fell in 24 hours.

He warned that the floods exceeded the forecasts, although so far no loss of human lives has been reported.

He also reported the occurrence of significant damage to agriculture, which has not yet been quantified.
